The Problem
Eastern subterranean termites are the primary termite threat in Ohio, and they are responsible for more property damage in the United States than fires, floods, and storms combined — over $5 billion annually. Unlike a burst pipe or a fallen tree, termite damage happens silently, out of sight, over months and years. Subterranean termites live in underground colonies that can number in the hundreds of thousands and forage through soil to reach the wood in your home. They build pencil-width mud tubes along foundation walls to maintain the moisture they need to survive, and they consume wood from the inside out — meaning structural timbers can be almost entirely hollowed before you notice anything wrong. Common warning signs include mud tubes on interior or exterior foundation walls, wood that sounds hollow when tapped, buckling or blistering paint on wood surfaces, and discarded wings near windows or doors after a warm spring rain (that's when reproductive termites swarm to start new colonies). Here's the fact that alarms most homeowners: standard homeowner's insurance policies in Ohio do not cover termite damage. Insurance companies classify it as preventable maintenance, which means the full cost of repairs falls on you. Central Ohio's clay-heavy soils retain moisture and create ideal foraging conditions, and older homes with stone or block foundations are especially vulnerable because of the many gaps termites can exploit.
Our Approach
M2's termite control program is built around three strategies: elimination of active colonies, barrier protection to prevent future entry, and ongoing monitoring to catch any new activity early. For active infestations, we apply a liquid termiticide barrier around and beneath the foundation. Modern non-repellent products like fipronil work by transfer — termites pass through the treated soil without detecting it and carry the active ingredient back to the colony, which collapses the entire population rather than just repelling them to a different entry point. We trench and rod-inject along the foundation perimeter, drill and treat beneath concrete slabs (garage floors, porches, stoops), and treat any soil-to-wood contact points directly. For ongoing protection, we install in-ground bait stations at regular intervals around the structure. These stations use cellulose monitoring cartridges that we check on a scheduled basis. When termite activity is detected, the monitoring cartridge is replaced with an active bait matrix that workers share throughout the colony. This dual approach — liquid barrier plus bait monitoring — provides both immediate knockdown and long-term surveillance. We also perform WDI (Wood-Destroying Insect) inspections for real estate transactions. Ohio lenders and buyers frequently require a WDI report, officially known as an NPMA-33 form, before closing on a home sale. Our licensed inspectors examine the accessible areas of the structure for evidence of termites, carpenter ants, carpenter bees, and powder post beetles, and provide a clear, honest report. We won't manufacture findings to generate treatment sales, and we won't overlook issues to help close a deal — our reputation depends on accuracy. After treatment, we provide documentation of all work performed, including a diagram of treated areas, products used, and recommendations for reducing future risk — such as correcting soil grade, removing wood-to-soil contact, improving ventilation in crawl spaces, and redirecting downspouts away from the foundation.
Why M2
Termite treatment is one of the most expensive pest control services a homeowner will ever need, and it's also one of the easiest for dishonest companies to oversell. M2's Golden Rule+ philosophy means we give you the same straightforward assessment we'd want if it were our own home. If we find an active infestation, we'll show you exactly what we found and explain every treatment option with clear pricing. If your home has no current activity but could benefit from preventive monitoring, we'll say that too — without pressure. We've protected homes across Central Ohio for over a decade, from Lancaster to Columbus to Zanesville, and we stand behind our work with ongoing monitoring and warranty options.
