The Problem

Ohio's warm, humid summers create prime breeding conditions for mosquitoes, and Central Ohio's abundance of creeks, drainage ditches, retention ponds, and low-lying yards makes the problem even worse. The two most common species homeowners encounter are the Asian tiger mosquito and the common house mosquito. The Asian tiger mosquito is the aggressive daytime biter with black-and-white striped legs — it's the one that ruins backyard barbecues and makes gardening miserable from May through October. Unlike many mosquito species, it breeds in tiny amounts of water: a bottle cap, a clogged gutter, a forgotten plant saucer. The common house mosquito is more active at dusk and dawn and is the primary vector for West Nile virus in Ohio. The Ohio Department of Health confirms West Nile virus activity in the state nearly every year, with human cases reported across multiple counties. Eastern equine encephalitis, though rarer, has also been detected in Ohio mosquito populations and carries a much higher fatality rate. Beyond disease transmission, mosquitoes simply make outdoor spaces unusable. Families with young children, people who enjoy evening walks, and anyone who wants to use their patio or deck without being eaten alive know exactly how much mosquitoes can reduce quality of life during Ohio's warmest months. Store-bought citronella candles and bug zappers provide minimal relief because they don't address the breeding populations or the resting adults hiding in your landscape.

Our Approach

M2's mosquito control program uses a multi-layered approach that targets mosquitoes at every stage of their life cycle. The cornerstone is our barrier spray treatment, applied to the areas where adult mosquitoes rest during the day — the undersides of leaves, shrub canopies, shaded fence lines, beneath decks, around foundations, and in other protected, shady areas of your yard. We use professional-grade residual products that kill mosquitoes on contact and continue working for several weeks as resting adults land on treated surfaces. This dramatically reduces the biting population in your yard between service visits. We complement the barrier spray with larvicide treatments targeting standing water that can't be eliminated. Retention ponds, ornamental water features, drainage ditches, catch basins, and storm drains are all potential breeding sites. We apply larvicide products that prevent mosquito larvae from developing into biting adults, breaking the reproductive cycle on your property. Before every treatment, our technicians also conduct a source reduction walkthrough, identifying and eliminating standing water wherever possible — clogged gutters, tarps collecting rainwater, unused tires, plant saucers, children's toys, and any other container holding water. We'll point these out to you so you can stay on top of them between visits. For maximum protection during Ohio's May-through-October mosquito season, we offer recurring treatment programs with visits every three to four weeks. This schedule keeps the residual barrier active throughout the season and allows us to adjust the treatment as conditions change — heavier rainfall means more breeding water and may call for additional larvicide applications. We also offer one-time event treatments for outdoor weddings, graduation parties, and other gatherings where you want your guests to enjoy the evening without swatting.

Why M2

A lot of mosquito companies sell a subscription and show up with a backpack sprayer for five minutes. M2's Golden Rule+ approach means we actually walk your property, look for breeding sources, treat the areas that matter, and explain what we're doing. If a treatment didn't hold up because of heavy rain, we come back. If you have questions between visits, a real person answers the phone at (740) 652-5292. We serve properties across Central Ohio — from suburban Columbus lots to larger rural acreages around Lancaster, Newark, and Circleville — and we tailor the treatment to your property's specific conditions. Our goal isn't to sell you a recurring service forever — it's to make your yard usable again during the months when it matters most.
